Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Borderless Budget ("we," "us," "our"), a multi-currency budgeting app. By creating an account or using our service, you agree to these terms.

What Borderless Budget does

Borderless Budget helps you track spending and manage budgets across multiple currencies. We connect to your bank accounts through regulated third-party providers, categorize your transactions, and provide budgeting tools.

We're a budgeting tool, not a bank. We don't hold your money, make transfers, or provide financial advice. Exchange rates shown in the app are for informational purposes and may differ from rates your bank applies.

Your account

• You must be at least 18 years old to use Borderless Budget.
• You're responsible for keeping your account secure. Use a strong password and set up passkey authentication when prompted.
• One person per account. Don't share your login credentials with others. You can invite other users to your account through our invitation feature.
• The information you provide must be accurate. Don't create accounts with fake identities.

Bank connections

When you connect a bank account, you authorize us to access your financial data through our regulated banking providers. Specifically:

• We receive read-only access to your account balances, transaction history, and account metadata.
• We can't move money, make payments, or modify your bank accounts.
• Your banking credentials go directly to your bank through our banking providers. We never see or store them.
• You can disconnect any bank account at any time through your account settings.
• EU bank connections require re-authorization every 90 days under PSD2 regulation.

AI features

Borderless Budget uses AI to categorize transactions and generate budget recommendations.

• AI categorization is optional. You choose whether to enable it before connecting your bank accounts.
• AI-generated categories and budget recommendations are suggestions. You can edit, override, or ignore them.
• Transaction data sent to the AI model is not stored after processing and is not used to train AI models.

Pricing and payments

• We offer a 30-day free trial with full access. No credit card required.
• After the trial, you choose a paid plan. Current pricing is listed on our pricing page.
• Payments are processed securely. We don't store your credit card details.
• You can cancel your subscription at any time. You keep access through the end of your billing period.
• We may change pricing with at least 30 days notice. Price changes don't apply to your current billing period.

Your data

• Your data belongs to you. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything other than providing the service.
• You can export all your data at any time in CSV or JSON format.
• You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. Deletion is processed within 30 days.

What we expect from you

Don't use Borderless Budget to:

• Violate any laws or regulations
• Access other people's accounts or data without authorization
• Reverse-engineer, scrape, or programmatically access the service without permission
• Interfere with the service's operation or overload our infrastructure
• Resell or redistribute the service

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

What we're responsible for

We commit to keeping your data secure, being transparent about how we use it, and providing a reliable service. We follow industry security practices and comply with GDPR and CCPA.

What we're not responsible for

• Financial decisions. Borderless Budget is a budgeting tool, not financial advice. Budget recommendations generated by AI are suggestions based on your spending patterns, not professional financial guidance.
• Exchange rate accuracy. Exchange rates are sourced from central bank sources and updated daily. They're for informational purposes and may differ from rates applied by your bank.
• Bank provider issues. If our banking providers experience downtime or can't connect to your bank, we'll do our best to keep you informed, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted bank connectivity.
• Data loss from your actions. If you delete your account, that action is irreversible after 30 days.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Borderless Budget's total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Availability

We aim for high availability but can't guarantee 100% uptime. We may perform maintenance that temporarily affects access. We'll give advance notice when possible.

Account termination

• By you: You can delete your account at any time through your account settings.
• By us: We may terminate accounts that violate these terms, after giving you notice and an opportunity to address the issue (except in cases of serious violations like unauthorized access or fraud).
• After termination, we follow the data deletion process described in our privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Borderless Budget after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Vermont, United States. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Vermont, except where prohibited by local law.
